A gender point of view for the
quality of enterprise processes

LLP-LDV/TOI/2007/IT/022
The value of diversity

Gender differences are not a problem per se,
unless they lead to inequalities.
Differences are a value provided that they are not debased
and erased by stereotypes and prejudice.

Entrepreneurs often claim that enterprises must be neutral workplaces, neither male nor female. These claims do not make sense because nobody when enters a work place hangs one’s own identity on a peg in the hall and turns into a zombie.
On the contrary, when a man or a woman enters a workplace he/she brings his/her own gender identity that is expressed through different skills, capabilities, behaviours, needs and conditions.
Enterprises must turn this diversity into an advantage for both their business and for employees well being.

The vademecum "One company, one thousand faces. A Vademecum to manage diversity and to promote equal opportunities in a company" - "Un'impresa, mille volti. Vademecum per gestire la diversità e promuovere le pari opportunità in azienda" (2007, P. Randini et al.) is addressed to enterprises - of any size and sector - wishing to adopt socially responsible policies in the area of diversity management and equal opportunities.
