The massive entry of women into the labour market, their recent high
schooling and education levels, greater work expectations and a strongly
competitive and global market, based on innovation and creativity, spur
enterprises to look for increasingly effective HR management tools aimed at overcoming the still very widespread gender
discriminations. Economists have pointed out over the past few years that high levels of
discrimination against women have negative implications for business and
work quality.
If Human Resources are and
will be the central core for the survival and competitiveness of enterprises in
years 2000, it is urgent and necessary to find solutions to value and make the most of HR, men and women alike,
avoiding waste of resources (e.g. women’s self-marginalization process
is a quite a large phenomenon) and of talents (e.g. personnel
appointment made not according to
competence but on grounds of gender biases). Waste of resources
The
significant and rapid changes occurred in the work force, globalization and new
technologies, require changes in enterprise
culture, Human Resource management and work organization because: - to
involve and motivate men and women it is necessary to adopt flexible work
places, times and methods, to support family and work life balance, to
enhance all workers’ skills;
- to
foster creation and innovation it is necessary to reach a gender balance
in all decision-making levels, since diversity is an added value.
